When clients don’t deliver

Does this sound familiar?

You spend ages putting a price together for a client who promises you content only for it to never arrive

So you:

  • grab some stock images
  • repurpose their old content
  • spend far too long in Canva
  • or ask chat GPT to come up with something

All while thinking, “I really wish I’d charged more for this.”

It’s THE most frustrating thing ever.

But here’s the bit most people miss…

The longer you keep creating content without the assets they agreed to provide, the less incentive your client has to actually send them.

Why would they? You’re already making it work.

So it’s time for a new plan.

Instead of quietly resenting them, just send this 👇

I just wanted to check in about the content assets we discussed for your upcoming posts.
At the moment, I’m a little limited in what I can schedule without those coming through, so I wanted to make sure this hasn’t slipped down the list or become a bit of a blocker on your side.
If pulling everything together feels like a faff or time is tight (which is very common), we’ve got a couple of easy options:
• You’re welcome to send over whatever you have, even if it feels imperfect, and I’ll work with that
• I can give you a quote to create new content assets for you to take it off your hands
• Or I can recommend photographers / videographers to help you get what we need
Let me know what feels easiest for you, and we’ll take it from there.

This does two important things:

It gently reminds the client that providing assets is their responsibility.

And it makes the choice very clear: send them… or pay to outsource them.

P.S. If you’ve never encountered this then keep hold of that client tightly.

When I was 10 years old, I wrote to my local newspaper. They had this deal where they'd give out free ice cream if you wrote in for your birthday. Only it wasn't MY birthday - it was my Dad's, and I thought he'd like a free ice cream. I told them he would be 36, and his favourite ice cream was mint chocolate chip (that's my favourite too). They must have been stuck for stories as the front page headline that week read, "COLIN MOORE IS 36" 😱 That week, our phone didn't stop ringing with people...

If showing up online feels a bit heavier than it used to, there’s a good reason for that. It’s not that you’ve lost confidence. And it’s definitely not that you’re suddenly bad at marketing. It's that AI has changed everything. We're hearing it over and over. And it hasn't just changed how content is created (although that's a biggie) It’s reduced people's trust levels... massively. Between deepfakes, confident opinions with zero experience behind them, and stats that sound impressive but are...
