When I was 10 years old, I wrote to my local newspaper. They had this deal where they'd give out free ice cream if you wrote in for your birthday. Only it wasn't MY birthday - it was my Dad's, and I thought he'd like a free ice cream. I told them he would be 36, and his favourite ice cream was mint chocolate chip (that's my favourite too). They must have been stuck for stories as the front page headline that week read, "COLIN MOORE IS 36" 😱 That week, our phone didn't stop ringing with people calling to say happy birthday and laugh about the headline! My Dad was mortified, and I've never lived it down. Luckily, there are content ideas all around us now, so we don't have to resort to humiliating our readers.
